“Many Hands Make Light Work”

We welcome all of you to join us this year at Davis PTSA as we begin the year guided by our theme for 2007-2008 - “Many Hands Make Light Work!”  PTSA offers busy Parents, Teachers, and Students a meaningful way to stay informed about and connected with their school community.  

By joining PTSA, you can choose to become as involved as your schedule allows!

·        We hold membership meetings on a monthly basis, generally on the 2^nd Thursday of each month at 7PM in the KIVA.  However, you should check your Davis PTSA calendar – which should have arrived in the mail to your home in September!

·        You can also receive information about PTSA and events at Davis High School on a regular basis by sending us an email to let us know that you would like to be added to our email list!  Our email address is: davispta@gmail.com 

·        You can also find great resources on education issues, legislative issues and find out what concerns parents throughout the state and nation by visiting our state PTSA website at: www.wastatepta.org. Don’t like computers or have one - just pick up the phone and call any of us to ask us about PTSA.  We’d love to hear from you! 

·        You can also run into us at Freshman Orientation, Open House, and at the concessions for boys basketball games – our only fundraiser for the year!

·        PTSA helps sponsor many events throughout the year including Honors Convocation, 8^th Grade Tours, Golden Acorn and other Awards, Reflections, Academic Excellence Awards, and of course, the production and mailing of the Davis calendar.

·        One of the biggest challenges of a big school like Davis High School is getting to know the teachers, other parents, and the administrators.  PTSA would like to help by introducing an informal, fun opportunity for parents to chat with our Principal, Ben Ramirez, over a cup of delicious Starbucks coffee.  PTSA invites parents to come to First Friday Coffee with the Principal in our office on the first Friday of each month from 7AM to 7:45AM.  Enjoy conversation from the serious to the silly!  We would like to thank Starbucks– for its generous donation of fresh coffee for this event!  Please come and join us for our next 1^st Friday Coffee with the Principal!

If you have time and interest, we can even help connect you with volunteer opportunities at the school.   Please come and join us in whatever way you can!

What’s New???

At our January 2008 meeting, PTSA voted in favor of endorsing the upcoming Levy and donated $300 in support of the levy campaign.  “I really like to support efforts that benefit ALL students, not just a few students….that’s exactly what levy money does,” commented parent, Phil Hoge at our last meeting.  If you would like more information about the upcoming levy, please contact Kathy Tierney (see sidebar). 

Did you know that Davis High School is a hundred years old in 2008?  Would you like to participate in planning a celebration of this grand event?  Do you know graduates that might be interested?  Please help us find Davis graduates!  If you are interested, please contact Assistant Principal Ryan McDaniel at Davis High School .

Finally, we want to thank all of the Davis families that contributed to the Alcala and other families in need over the holidays.  Davis PTSA members, Davis Athletic Booster club, and SANTA combined efforts to respond to the tragic loss suffered by the Alcala family when their mother/wife was killed in a car accident right before Christmas.  Santa and PTSA Co-Vice President, Aurora Peña Torres delivered gift cards, cash and a Christmas tree, complete with decorations to the Alcala family.  (SEE PHOTO)  We appreciate the tremendous and generous response of the Davis community in times of need.  THANK YOU!
