A Message From Mr. Alvarado Our philosophical cornerstone of Washington Middle School staff, students and parents is not only that every student can learn, but also that every student can experience success both academically and socially. Our building focus statement is to: Increase student achievement through the lens of literacy with a S.M.I.L.E. (in a Supportive, Motivating, and Innovative Learning Environment). The very design of our building supports this philosophy. Our school is made up of three houses. Each house contains classes and programs that service all grade levels. One of the goals of our house configuration is that students in the house become better acquainted with one another and their teachers, leading to relationships that will enhance their learning. Our arts programs of band, choir, and orchestra draw from all the houses and support the entire school community. Sports programs also bring the school together as a learning community. Our building and fields are home to various community/athletic events. Our building supports a magnet program throughout the three houses, the Integrated Computer, Arts and Technology School (I-CATS). The magnet program offers numerous teaching and learning activities integrated across the basic comprehensive curriculum. Our building motto, “We Make a Difference”, is really what we are all about, making a difference in the lives of all that enter our building.
