Students Rights and Responsibilities

Every student has a right to:

1. An education.

2. Be safe and secure in the school community.

3. Expect that local, state, & federal laws will be

enforced.

4. Expect reasonable & socially responsible

behavior from others.

Every student has a responsibility to:

1. Not disrupt the education of others,

2. Respect the rights of others

3. Respect the secutrity of others

4. Obey local, state, and federal laws

5. Speak and act in a socially responsible manner

Gang Activity/Exceptional Misconduct

The following behaviors constitute a substantial disruption of the educational process and pose a serious safety threat to both the students and staff of the Yakima School District. Therefore, they constitute exceptional misconduct under WAC Sec. 180-40-260 (2)(B) and WAC 180-40-295. Participation in any of these acts will result in immediate short or long term suspension. Repeat, multiple, or severe offenses may result in expulsion. An individual's extraordinary circumstances will be considered before a final decision is made. (Yakima School District Policy 5.02 and 5.04).

5.02.10 Gang Activity. Gang activity is prohibited. Gang clothing, gang graffiti, gang language and/or hand signs, or other actions that intimidate or promote the formation of continuance of gangs will be deemed to be engaging in gang activity.
