Davis H.S. Library/Media Center Information
At A.C. Davis Library/Media Center, students search for information through a variety of media. Students use books, CD-ROM disks or on-line resources to obtain information from newspapers, periodicals, atlases, encyclopedias, dictionaries and world classics. In the two, on-line computer labs, classes can be found during most school days composing papers on word-processing programs; researching on Internet; working on NovaNet, an individualized math program; or accessing graphic, health, or science programs. The Yakima Rotary funded the Rotary Multimedia Research Facility to help improve opportunities for computer literacy in our valley. Projects created in these labs can be saved on disks for multimedia presentations or printed, free of charge, on one of the laser printers. In addition to the fine collection of "research" books, Davis Library/Media Center boosts one of the largest public-school paperback collections in the United States. Students may also access (from school or home) several large subscription databases which include extensive collections of current and back-file periodicals and newspapers in Spanish and English. Online encyclopedias are also accessible to Davis Students and parents, from school or home, in English or Spanish. Passwords are available at the Davis Library. If needed materials are not available on site, a student may also access other Yakima city, Yakima School District or Washington state resources because of cooperative agreements which Davis Library has with these facilities. This training is crucial as our students move into fields of higher education and utilize large college and university libraries. The staff of A.C. Davis Library/Media Center welcomes visitors at the end of the school day and will be more than happy to assist parents or community patrons with available services as time allows.
